Benevolence Request

Renovation Church provides financial assistance through our Benevolence Fund whenever possible. We can't always meet every need. These requests are reviewed by our Deacons. After considering your request, they will determine and advise if we are able to provide any level of assistance. Please allow up to 7 days for a response as all those who review these requests are volunteers who work full-time in other spaces.

Before proceeding further - please read the following about how our assistance works and what you can expect from us.

What it comes down to is this; you can expect to get a hand up, not just a handout.

Why are we so nosey?
We’re not really nosey. Our goal is to help you get out of trouble, not allow you continue to stay in trouble. We will offer help that you might not expect, like giving suggestions on how to stay out of need in the future. We may even offer to help you set a budget so your money goes further. All of this requires that we have more information than just your name and address. We want to help change your life for the better.

Renovation Church is involved in benevolence ministry because:
• The Bible teaches that the church should help those who need help.
• Our obedience to this command will bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ.
• The best way to demonstrate the love of Christ is through practical expressions of sharing what He has given us.

Who will we help?
Benevolence is to be extended to everyone who is in need.
We will always help members of our own church, first. We will help members of other churches, second, (if you are involved at another church, we will contact your church to verify your situation). We will help those who are not associated with a church, when we have the ability.

What must I do to get help?
Submit your request by filling out this form. It will help us keep good records. The government demands that we keep good records.

What will happen after I ask?
One or more of our deacons will reach out to you to hear your story. Then our deacons will decide, together, whether we can help you.

The first few times you come to us for help, you may receive some assistance. If you’ve been here a few times already, our deacons will want to sit down and talk a little more. They might ask some pretty specific questions, like;
• Name, address, phone numbers of employers, landlords, close relatives, etc.
• If you have bills that you need help paying, they will ask about your spending habits.
• If you are having substance abuse problems or any addictions, they will ask about your treatments and counselors.
• They will ask any questions they feel are necessary or pertinent to our understanding your situation.

Are there limits to how much help you can get from us?

Yes. We would like to meet every need but we understand that we will not be able to do that.
We receive many requests for help each month and must limit the amount of help we can give. There will be times that we can do much and there will be times that we can do little. We will always try to help those with the most urgent need first.

We must limit the number of times we can help you to a maximum of 1 time each month. There may be times when we cannot help at all.

We must usually limit the amount of financial help we can give to a maximum of $100.00 per request.

Can I become disqualified from receiving help?

Yes. There are several situations that could cause us to stop helping someone.

Some of those situations are:
1. Calling our pastors about benevolent requests. Once you have been in contact with our Benevolence Ministry, please do not contact our Pastors about Benevolence issues. They do not make benevolence decisions and they cannot help. Repeatedly calling our pastors for benevolence help may result in a decision stop helping altogether.
2. Calling our Benevolence Workers at home. With Caller I.D. we have run into situations where people who are seeking help call the homes or cell phones of our workers and disrupt their work and families. If you have a need or a question, call the church at (630) 372-7000. Calling anyone else may result in a decision to stop helping.
3. Please remain polite. There are many people with many needs asking for help all the time. Rude speech or threats of any kind will result in us stopping all help immediately.
4. If we find out that you are not truthful with us we will stop helping.
5. Live within these guidelines. Do not just show up unannounced at our public services. We are not permitted to carry out benevolence requests during services.
6. Don’t abuse the system. We have run into situations in which someone will continue to pay for things they don’t need (like their full cable package or cigarettes or alcohol) but come to us for help for other things (like food or rent or utilities). When that happens, it takes food out of the mouth of others who really need help.
7. Don’t cooperate with us. After you have come to us for help several times (usually three), we will ask you to allow us to review your overall finances with you and advise you on ways to save money. We do this in order to be able to help as many as possible. We do not make or keep written records of your finances. We keep all information about people we help, strictly confidential.
